I love everything steampunk, from the faction to the fiction to the retro-futuristic gadgets and everything in between. So it’s no wonder I decided to incorporate a small bit of steampunk into my latest paranormal romance novel, A WICKED DESIRE, from my dark fantasy series Creatures of Darkness (COD). The story follows Coraline Conwell, a witch, orphaned at a young age, trying to find her way through a new-to-her paranormal world.
The COD world is set in the future after decades of war has basically ripped the world a new one, and reduced much of America to third world country status. Though I call it a dark fantasy, there is a lot of romance and sexy vampires, and my heroine, Coraline, is not involved with only one man.
In A WICKED DESIRE, I introduce one of the most iconic symbols of steampunk, the air ship, where much of the plot takes place. I had so much fun researching airships and figuring out how to seamlessly draw this aesthetic into the story without it overpowering the focus.
