While working toward hitting a bestseller list—something that, until now, had eluded me in my ten years of being a published writer—the last few months have been a veritable endless marathon of finishing my post-apocalyptic paranormal romance novel THE VAMPIRE’S MASQUERADE and promoting the boxed set it would be featured in: EMPIRES OF SHADOW AND ASH.

Endless of hours spent plotting and planning, writing and re-writing, editing and revising, creating graphics, cover art, working with a new editor, marketing, posting, organizing my street team, review team, arc team, and everything else that goes into a successful book release.

I knew I was burning myself out, but I had to push on because no one else was going to do all these tasks for me and they had to get done. So for a handful of months I closed myself in my office and thought of nothing but promotion, sales, and entertaining ways to engage readers.

Although this sort of extreme workload accompanies every release, the Empires boxed set was a new kind of beast.

Thankfully I was working with a wonderful group of authors, most of who share my work ethic, and we were all striving for a single goal: make it onto the USA Today Bestseller list.

Even though I wasn’t alone, it was still an uphill battle. We fought for every sale in order to reach our goal.

By the end, I was exhausted, my brain was mush, and I was seriously worrying all my hard work was for nothing. Our sales numbers were on the low end of the spectrum.

I wasn’t the only one. I could tell several of my fellow authors were feeling discouraged too, but instead of giving up, we only worked harder.

Then release day came and went, and the numbers came in…

OMG! I am a USA Today Bestseller!

I was floored. I was stunned. I seriously ugly cried. My fiancé caught me sobbing and asked if someone had died. I could barely sputter the words, “We made the list!” It took me a couple tries to get it out. “WE MADE THE LIST!”

I still can’t believe it.

Little did I know this was only the beginning of the good news heading my way.

On the heels of becoming a USA Today Bestseller, I received the amazing news that my paranormal romance novel KEEPING HIS SIREN won the NERFA Award (National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award), a contest dedicated to bringing attention to the best romance fiction each year.

They say good things come in threes…

Well, this time it’s true.

A couple days after learning I’d won the NERFA Award, I got a phone call from a lovely Georgia Romance Writers representative who informed me KEEPING HIS SIREN also became a Maggie finalist, another prestigious contest that recognizes authors who have published outstanding books in the romance genre.

These delightful events could not have come at a better time. I am infused with much-needed validation that I’m on the right path and that my books are actually worthy of the voracious readers who gobble up my stories faster than I can write them.

Today I feel truly blessed.

New Covers & New Shadow Quest Book In The Works

Before I tell you about the next book in my Shadow Quest series, I want to thank everyone who purchased a copy of Empires of Shadow and Ash. The boxed set hit the USA Today Bestseller List!

I could not be more grateful to those who helped make that happen.

When I got the news, I did a little dance, shed a couple tears of joy, and then decided to add the accolade to all of my published book covers. I only intended to incorporate the short phrase USA Today Bestseller above my name and no other changes….

But…

One thing led to another, and then another, and then a lot of anothers, and I ended up completely re-doing the covers for the first three books in Shadow Quest, my intensely sexy scifi romance series.

This completely involuntary artistic compulsion—and dedication to forsaking sleep, meals, and household chores—has led me to produce some of my absolute favorite candy-coated covers of all time.

New Shadow Quest Book In The Works

Though I was consumed by this task, I did find time to begin work on a new Shadow Quest book. I don’t have a name yet, or a release date—it’s only a rough draft—but I can say it features the dragon shifters, Aidan and Prince Lear, as they prepare for the infamous intergalactic race, Phase Nine.

This new novel promises to be every bit as sexy and exciting as its predecessors and I CANNOT wait for you to read it!

Every Christmas I have a hard time finding gifts for people in my life, and with the traffic and crowds, I always find it a bit stressful too. So I end up procrastinating till the last week of December and wind up doing the last minute shopping thing. Never fails.

And I know it can’t be easy for my friends and family to find the right gift for me—something that isn’t a book. Like so many others, I mostly read on my Kindle these days anyway. You can always gift a Kindle book to someone if you know what they like to read, but it’s not the same as unwrapping something on Christmas day, am I right?

New Book Covers for CoD—Round 2

Earlier this year, I updated the covers for my romance series Creatures of Darkness, hoping to attract new readers to the series. The artwork was beautiful, dramatic, vibrant, veritable candy-for-the-eyes, and portrayed elements of each story. I loved them. Still do. However, I actually started to see a decrease in sales, so….

If at first you don’t succeed….

After much deliberation and dithering—and whining, let’s be honest—I made the hard decision to once again rebrand the series. Big girl panties pulled up, I donned my graphic designer hat and went to town creating a whole new set of covers for A WICKED HUNGER, A WICKED NIGHT, & A WICKED DESIRE (see below).

I expected the covers to pretty clearly portray the genre, to hint at the theme, and to grab attention. I think I’ve hit all those nails.

What I didn’t expect was how much I LOVE these new covers!
They’re mysterious, eye-catching, and sexy. And, hell, what more do you really need. LOL!

Will these newest covers help readers decide to pick up my book? We’ll just have to wait and see.

What Should I Write Next?

So, I’ve dabbled in sci-fi fantasy, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and erotic romance. I guess you could say I’m fishing for my genre.

Problem number one: I love them ALL, and there are so many books in each series I would like to write.

Problem two: I’m not one of those writers who can consciously send a half-cocked manuscript out into the world without making sure I’ve done my absolute best for the story, and more importantly, YOU, the reader.

Problem three: This means it takes longer for me to write and fully develop a novel before it gets into your hands.

So, before I dive into my next project and get lost for the next few months, I want to get your opinion. Please let me know what you’re just dying to read from me next. You can give your opinion below.
